The device (1) has a base plate (2) movably mounted with respect to a base (4), and an articulation unit (5) articulating the base plate from a high position to a low position. A motorized unit (6) has a screw-jack (7) fixed between the base and the base plate. A detecting unit (12) detects the displacement of mass of the person on the base plate, where the detecting unit is in the form of a sensor. The detecting unit automatically controls the articulation unit towards the low position of the base plate based on the displacement.
