The method involves detecting phenomenon of pumping of a compressor (4) by measuring peak to peak amplitude of oscillations of air flow and comparing the amplitude with a preset threshold value, where the air flow circulates in the compressor. A portion of air in downstream of the compressor is recirculated towards upstream of the compressor by controlling opening of a recirculation valve (24), in case of detection of the phenomenon.
