The knuckle (5) has a housing (5e) for radially receiving a horizontal or vertical pivot (7), and a recess (5c) for receiving and guiding a housing obstruction unit that blocks/unblocks the pivot. Another recess (5f) receives and guides a pivot blocking unit portion. A blocking/unblocking unit i.e. vertical or horizontal chopper, is moved between blocking and unblocking positions. The housing is blocked off in the blocking position, and is released in the unblocking position. The two recesses are defined in corresponding U-shaped branches in opposite to one another. An independent claim is also included for a door for a motor vehicle, comprising a knuckle that is horizontally and/or vertically installed on the door.
