Use of a polymer comprising a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer, methylvinylether/maleic anhydride copolymer, poly(4-vinylbenzochloride) polymer, poly(allyl amine) polymer, poly(4-vinylpyridine) or poly(N-vinylimidazole) as electrochemiluminescence polymer, is claimed, where the electrochemiluminescence polymer comprises l number of monomer(s) substituted by a bis([2,2']bipyridinyl)ruthenium complex (I), g number of monomer(s) substituted by an amine group (II), and m number of unsubstituted monomer(s). Use of a polymer comprising a styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer, methylvinylether/maleic anhydride copolymer, poly(4-vinylbenzochloride) polymer, poly(allyl amine) polymer, poly(4-vinylpyridine) or poly(N-vinylimidazole) as electrochemiluminescence polymer, is claimed, where the electrochemiluminescence polymer comprises l number of monomer(s) substituted by a bis([2,2']bipyridinyl)ruthenium complex of formula (I), g number of monomer(s) substituted by an amine group of formula (-R1-NRxRy) (II), and m number of unsubstituted monomer(s); and l, m and g are integers greater than 1, and the sum of m, l, and g is equal to the total number of monomers in the polymer.
