The device (10) has an electric drive e.g. linear motor, for displacing a magnetic arrangement with respect to magnetocaloric elements (13) for subjecting the arrangement to magnetic field variation and provoking variation of temperature of the arrangement. The drive has electric coils (14) supplied with the electric current for generating variation of the magnetic field to displace a mobile assembly carrying the arrangement. A thermal unit containing the magnetocaloric elements is placed between the electric coils and the arrangement. Each coil has a winding carried by an armature (16).
