An apparatus and appertaining method for controlling the apparatus are provided for processing a digital image, which can capture an image with reduced hand shake effect without using a hand shake sensor. The apparatus includes an image input unit receiving a plurality of input images and a control unit for receiving the images when a shutter release button signal is input, selecting the clearest image from the input images as a best image and capturing S850 the best image. The images at different lens focus settings may be obtained by half pressing the shutter release button S820. Focus values S950 may be calculated by calculating luminance values S940 of RAW data S930 of regions selected by human or face detection means S920, with the image with the highest focus value being selected as the best image S960.
