PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel fluorescent material having nitrides of three elements of a monovalent element and a tetravalent element as a base crystal and having excellent conversion efficiency to blue light or near UV light and color purity and to provide a method for stably producing the nitride fluorescent material using metal silicon as a raw material without using a special high pressure device and without needing excessive high temperature treatment.;SOLUTION: The fluorescent material is represented by formula [1]. The fluorescent material is produced by using a metal sodium as a sodium source, a metal Si as an Si source and any of NaN3, LiN3 and N2 gas as an N source and casting these raw materials together with an activation element Q in a reaction vessel and then heating the resultant materials.
