PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ammonia decomposition catalyst exhibiting high catalytic activity in the decomposition reaction of ammonia, and a method of decomposing ammonia using the catalyst. PSOLUTION: The ammonia decomposition catalyst includes a carrier comprising a composite oxide containing ceria and alumina, and zirconia as needed, and at least one metal element belonging to the groups 8-10 of a long-period periodic table carried by the carrier, and is the catalyst for generating hydrogen from ammonia-containing gas.
