PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microporous carbonaceous material capable of expressing functions of a supported metal while maintaining such fine porosity functions that the microporous carbonaceous material originally possesses. PSOLUTION: The microporous carbonaceous material 5 has a three-dimensional long-period ordered structure in the range of 0.7 nm to 2 nm and has micropores 2a, wherein a transition metal 4 is supported on the surface of the micropores 2a. The microporous carbonaceous material is provided by: a method including a process of introducing an organic compound onto the surface of porous material that contains a transition metal and into the micropores and carbonizing the organic compound according to a chemical vapor deposition method to obtain a composite of the microporous carbonaceous material containing the transition metal and a porous material and a process of removing the porous material; or a method including a process of introducing an organic compound onto the surface of the porous material to obtain a microporous carbonaceous material according to a chemical vapor deposition method and a process of immersing and impregnating the microporous carbonaceous material in a transition metal salt solution to support the transition metal onto the surface of the microporous carbonaceous material.
