PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for a position tracking device which is attached to a moving object, can sequentially obtain the present position of the device and can perform power saving of the device. PSOLUTION: The position tracking device 10 receives a GPS signal from an artificial satellite 30, positions the position of the device and stores information obtained by associating a time with the positioned position. The position tracking device 10 uses a communication function to transmits the stored information to a position tracking server 11 through a portable communication network base station 31. Further, when located inside a building or at an underground position 40, the position tracking device 10 receives an area ID from an area ID transmitter 12 installed inside the building or at the underground position 40. When it is determined that the received area ID coincides with an area ID stored in advance, the position tracking device 10 determines that communication with the portable communication network base station 31 is impossible, and turns off the power of the communication function for a predetermined period of time.
