PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner capable of adjusting tension of a chain without receiving influence of hydraulic pressure varying due to a change in an engine speed of an engine.;SOLUTION: A compression coil spring 130 is arranged between a bottom surface of a storage hole 111 and a bottom surface of a plunger 120 opposed to this bottom surface, in the storage hole 111 formed in a housing 110 of the chain tensioner 100. A permanent magnet 140 is fixed to the bottom surface of the plunger 120 and an electromagnet 150 is fixed to the bottom surface of the storage hole 111 so that they are mutually opposed on the inside of a coil of the compression coil spring 130. The chain tensioner 100 adjusts the tension of the chain by transmitting resultant force of magnetic force acting between the permanent magnet 140 and the electromagnet 150 and energizing force of the compression coil spring 130 to the chain via the plunger 120.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
