PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating optical characteristic calculation method, a coating optical characteristic calculation device, a computer program and a recording medium, for maintaining the decorativeness of a heat shield coating with a degree of freedom in selecting colors, and for easily selecting pigment for more increasing the heat shield performance of the coating. PSOLUTION: The rays of light of a near infrared wavelength band are treated as a flow of one energy, and an energy reflection rate when the energy is made incident on the coating is determined, and the determined energy reflection rate is used as the reflection rate of the rays of light of one waveform, and absorption coefficients and scattering coefficients with respect to the rays of light of the near infrared wavelength band of the coating are calculated as the optical characteristics of the coating.
