PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide surface-coated austenitic stainless steel in which stress corrosion cracking generated by the deposition of snow-melting salt or the like is prevented.;SOLUTION: The steel having a composition containing, by mass, ≤0.06% C, 16 to 25% Cr, 6 to 20% Ni and 0.2 to 2% Cu, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. At least the surface used as the outer face of a fuel tank is provided with a coated layer with a thickness of 1 to 200 μm composed of one or two kinds of Zn and Al. The contact angle of water in the surface is ≤50 degrees. Preferably, the steel further contains one or two kinds of 1 to 4% Si and 0.2 to 2% Mo. The coated layer contains one or more kinds selected from Mg, Si, Fe and Ni by 0.05 to 25% in total.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
