PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hybridization with which the hybridization of a probe with a target base sequence can be carried out with high selectivity and accuracy even when the concentration of the target base sequence is ultralow.;SOLUTION: The method for the hybridization is characterized in that a peptide nucleic acid probe immobilized on a solid-phase support is brought into contact with a solution containing a target nucleic acid having a base sequence complementary to the peptide nucleic acid probe and further containing a hydrophilic organic solvent in an amount of 1.0-3.0 mol/L based on the solution and regulated to pH 9.1-10.6.
