PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide highly safe microorganisms having the ability to decompose in a short time in high efficiency highly toxic, hard-to-decompose polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins or polychlorinated dibenzofurans, and to provide a method for safely decompose these polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins or polychlorinated dibenzofurans in a short time in high efficiency using the above microorganisms. SOLUTION: This microorganism is a new strain Mortierella sp. D5 (FERM P-17687) or new strain Penicillium sp. D7 (FERM P-17688) which has the extremely high ability to decompose dioxins, being safe and high in proliferation rate. By inoculating and growing the microorganisms in a circumstance containing dioxins, these dioxins can be decomposed safely, efficiently in a short time.
