PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a data provider using a computer network 20, such as the Internet, to influence the position for a search listing within a research result list generated by an Internet search engine 24. PSOLUTION: A database 38 accommodates an account for a network information provider. A bidding process occurs when the network information provider enters a new bid amount for a search listing. The system and method then compares the bid amount with all other bid amounts for the same search term, and generates a rank value for all search listing having that search term.
