PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the water resistivity of images or characters to be recorded on recording paper by coating, and lessen blotting of ink. ;SOLUTION: The water resistance agent is made up of containing cationic polyurethane resin obtained by neutralizing and quadrifying the tertiary amine structure obtained by reacting (dD) a tertiary amine compound having 1-4 hydroxyl groups or an amine group, or (E) an amine compound having two or more amino groups in a polyurethane isocyanate obtained by reacting a tertiary amine compound having (A) a polyisocyanate compound, (B) a polyol compound, and (c) 2-10 hydroxyl group and/or amino group at the equivalent ratio of 0.5 or more and 1.0 or less of (a hydroxyl group and an amino group)/(an isocyanate group). Then, a water resistance agent is coated on ink jet recording paper.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
