PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material exchange column capable of mounting a packing on the column in the horizontal state and transporting the column. ;SOLUTION: This material exchange column 1 is provided with the packing 2 capable of being mounted on the column even in the horizontal state. A collar is arranged in an annular gap formed between the packing 2 of the column 1 and the wall 10 of the column. the collar is provided with a belt like zone 30. A spring-elastically bonded surface member 31 forming a bridge to the wall and providing a return passage of liquid from the wall to the packing during the operation is adjacent to the upper end of the belt like zone 30. A projecting part 4 is provided in the belt like zone 30 so as to keep the shape of the collar stable under the load of the packing when the column is in the horizontal state.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
