The invention relates to a fluid production from wells by mechanical means and can be used for operating the production oil wells by means of downhole centrifugal pumping units provided with a controllable electric drive. The inventive method for a short-term well operation consists in controlling the performance of downhole centrifugal pumping units by modifying the ratio between a time required for pumping fluid from the well (minutes) and a time required for accumulating the fluid therein (tens of minutes), wherein a pressure is controlled by modifying a pump rotation velocity. The use of the inventive method makes it possible to increase the profitability of the well operation by: increasing a volume of production by 10-15 % by optimising a formation-well-unit system operation, reducing the power consumption thereof by 2-3 times, using equipment exhibiting improved energy characteristics, operating said equipment under optimum operation conditions, increasing a run life by 1.5-2 times by optimising equipment operating conditions, and by keeping the cost of the controllable downhole centrifugal pumping units at the level of non-controllable downhole centrifugal pumping units by reducing the overall dimensions of said equipment.
