An apparatus for measurement of flame temperature of solid propellants characterized by: a light source (1) connected to a power source (3) through a rheostat (2) and an ammeter, (4) a box painted black from inside and housing said light source (1) and having a hole through which light from said light source (1) passes and falls on lens (6) which further focuses light at the top of the flame (7) of the propellant (12), lens (9) which forms second image of the light source (1) on to the slit (10) of direct vision spectroscope, a diaphragm (13) which minimizes stray light incident on the spectroscope, a special burner (8) with a spring arrangement wherein the mixture propellant (12) strand and sodium chloride is ignited and which maintains constant vertical height of the flame (6) of the propellant(12).
