The present invention describes a solid oxygen carrier that, produced by means of impregnation, comprises a nickel oxide on an alumina (Al2O3) substrate and also the method for producing same. The said oxygen carrier of the invention may be used for the production of syngas (H2+CO) or H2 by partial oxidation of methane with inherent CO2 capture in a fluidized bed ("chemical looping reforming", CLR). The present invention relates to the provision of a novel solid oxygen carrier for a novel methane or hydrocarbon reforming process, in the production of hydrogen or syngas. The oxygen carrier presented maintains its properties and activity for many hours, which is essential for the process proposed. Furthermore, the oxygen carrier proposed suits the required fluidization characteristics, enabling it to be used in reforming with solid oxygen carriers.
