TREATING INFLAMMATORY DISEASES OF THE HEAD AND NECK WITH CYCLOOXYGENASE-2 INHIBITORS

A patient with an inflammatory disease of the head and neck is treated with atherapeutic amount of a selective inhibitor ofcyclooxygenase-2 or a cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor from a natural source. In oneembodiment, a patient with a sore throat caused bytonsillitis or pharyngitis is treated with the topical application of acyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor from a natural source. In other embodiments,patients with sore throat caused by tonsillitis or pharyngitis or a patientwith sinusitis are treated by systemic administration of a selectiveinhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2. In another embodiment, a patient withperiodontitis is treated by administration of a cyclooxygenase-2inhibitor from a natural source.
