The invention relates to an optoelectronic positionmeasurement device having a code carrier (1) that carries atleast one optically registered position code (2) and that isilluminated with optical radiation. from a radiation source(31). At least one portion of the optical radiation isregistered by at least one registration element (32), bymeans of which a signal dependent on the position code (2)can be created and a position of the code carrier (1)relative to the registration element (32) can thus beregistered, wherein the code carrier is movable relative tothe registration element (32) with a degree of freedom - inparticular rotating or translating. The radiation source(31) and code carrier (1) are arranged and designed suchthat the optical radiation couples into the code carrier (1)and is guided at least partially in a beam path in theinterior of the code carrier (1) lying in the extensionlevel of the code carrier (1), in particular to the positioncode (2). The decoupling of the optical radiation occurs ina decoupling zone such that the registration element (32) isilluminated by a substantially homogenous intensitydistribution.
