A low temperature β-BaB2O4 single crystal in the field of artificial crystals, a method for manufacturing the same and wave changing elements made from the same are provided. The single crystal can be obtained by molten-salt method, which can completely avoid the shortcoming of strong deliquescence property of BBO and hardly creates deliquescence. The frequency doubling effect and laser damage threshold of the single crystal are significantly improved compared with BBO crystals and the hardness of it is considerably increased. Shore hardness of the single crystal is 101.3 and Mohs hardness of it is 6, while Shore hardness of BBO is 71.2 and Mohs hardness of it is 4. According to the transmittance test in the visible-ultraviolet region, the cut off wavelength of the single crystal is 190nm and the start absorption wavelength is 205nm, as these are better than those of BBO. It is possible and promising to make BBSAG be extensively used in laser nonlinear optical field and in terms of ultraviolet and deep ultraviolet wave changing elements.
