The invention relates to a device and a method for combined rheological measurement and X-ray scatter testing of materials, with a rheometer having a cone-plate or plate-plate configuration, in which method, for the rheological measurement, one of cone or plate in the cone-plate or plate-plate configuration is suspended on an airborne vertical shaft (14) and can be moved in rotation or in a reciprocating oscillation relative to the other by a drive (12), and the drive force needed for a defined speed of rotation or for an oscillation of predetermined frequency and amplitude is measured in order to determine from this the shear strain and shear stress of the material, and in which method an X-ray beam is also used to transirradiate the material in the rheometer, and the intensity and direction of the diffracted X-radiation is measured, characterized in that the X-ray beam is deflected through an X-ray beam guide (4, 6) and is oriented to the plate-plate or plate-cone configuration at an angle of less than 20° with respect to the vertical rheometer shaft.
