The circuit scale of flash memory error correction circuits is reduced. Disclosed is a controller with error correction function, which controls reading and writing to and from multiple memories, and which is equipped with a buffer memory, an error correction circuit, and multiple interface modules provided corresponding to each of the multiple memories, which conduct the exchange of data with the memories, each of which multiple interface modules is equipped with a syndrome generation functional part, which receives sector data from the memory and an error correction symbol corresponding to that sector data, and then generates a syndrome based on the received sector data and error correction symbol, wherein the buffer memory temporarily stores multiple sector data and the error correction circuit determines the addresses for which errors were generated based on the syndromes generated by the aforementioned multiple syndrome generation functional parts, and corrects the bits corresponding to the addresses in the sector data stored in the buffer memory.
