Composition used as electrode in electrochemical batteries based on lithium (Li) comprises (a) transition metal halide(s) with (b) a binder, e.g. PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride), PTFE, PAN (polyacrylonitrile) or ETDN, and optionally (c) conductive additive(s), e.g. carbon black, graphite, metal powder or metal fibers. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) use of similar compositions, in which component (a) is: (1) ruthenium (Ru) oxide(s); (2) molybdenum (Mo) oxide(s) (III); or (3) a mixture of Ru oxide(s) and Mo oxide(s). (2) use of an amorphous composition of metal clusters and Li oxide (Li2O) or fluoride (LiF) on an atomic or nanometer scale to provide a highly-reversible Li storage quality; and (3) electrodes of each of the cited compositions.
