Provided is an object motion inferring device suitable to infer an optical flow by image analysis of a captured image by solving the problem of conventional gradient methods that translation of the optical flow (namely, the spatial gradient is zero) is assumed. The object motion inferring device infers the motion of an object by image analysis of a captured image obtained by capturing the object. The object motion inferring device is provided with an image analyzing unit (15) which infers an optical flow using the brightness at each point of the captured image as an observable while assuming the time invariance of the optical flow and not assuming the translation and also estimates the spatial gradient of the optical flow. The assumption of the translation of the optical flow is an assumption about the optical flow which is primarily unknown, and the assumption can be loosened as much as possible.
