An agent comprising a pyrrole-imidazole polyamide containing an N-methylpyrrole unit (referred to as "Py", hereinafter), an N-methylimidazole unit (referred to as "Im", hereinafter) and a γ-aminobutyric acid unit. The pyrrole-imidazole polyamide is folded at the region of the γ-aminobutyric acid unit to form an U-shaped conformation in a miner groove of a double-helical region (referred to as "a target region", hereinafter), wherein the double-helical region is composed of: a sequence containing an E-BOX region sequence of an MYC downstream gene comprising a specific nucleotide sequence, a part or the whole of a specific sequence that is an antisense sequence of the E-BOX region sequence, and a nucleotide sequence consisting of 1 to 2 nucleotides upstream and/or downstream from the E-BOX region; and a sequence complementary to the above-mentioned sequence. In the pyrrole-imidazole polyamide, a Py/Im pair corresponds to a C-G base pair, an Im/Py pair corresponds to a G-C base pair, and a Py/Py pair corresponds to both an A-T base pair and a T-A base pair.
