Provided is a method for evaluating the properties of a ferrite with which it is possible to continuously measure changes in magnetic properties that accompany changes in ferrite composition by preparing one sample only. A ferrite thin film having a composition gradient, which consists of multiple ferrite layers having a composition gradient and is obtained by film formation with the component composition graded in the horizontal direction, is formed by thin-film formation on a light-transmitting single crystal substrate, and the changes in magnetic properties that accompany changes in the ferrite composition are continuously measured by measuring the magneto-optical effect continuously in the direction of the composition gradient of the ferrite thin film.
