PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing ultrafine tungsten carbide powder using molten salt-assisted SHS is provided to control particles size of the powder with a sub-micron unit, and to produce the powder of high purity.;CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing ultrafine tungsten carbide powder using molten salt-assisted SHS includes the following steps of: gaining a raw material by mixing organic materials containing oxygen and carbon, tungsten oxide, a reducing agent, a carbon source, alkaline salt, carbonate and a reaction activator; putting the raw material to a high pressure container; reducing the tungsten oxide by igniting and heating the raw material locally; washing a generated reaction product with distilled water; and washing the product with an acid solution. The alkaline salt is LiF, LiCl, LiBr, LiI, NaF, NaCl, NaBr, NaI, KF, KCl, KBr, KI, or their salt mixture. The reaction activator includes sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, potassium hydrogen carbonate, magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, urea, melamine, polystyrene, and their mixture.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2010
