PURPOSE: A method for modifying the surface of microporous separator membranes is provided to improve physical stability and stable electrochemical characteristic by fluoridizing the surface of a microporous separator membrane. CONSTITUTION: A method for modifying the surface of microporous separator membranes comprises the steps of: providing a microporous separator membrane of a secondary lithium battery; and fluoridizing the surface of the microporous separator membrane. The material for the microporous separator membrane is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene and polyethylene.
