The method involves agitating a form cylinder (1), a counter-pressure cylinder (3) and a rubber cylinder (2) by a main drive (6) in continuous printing operation. A damping unit (5) is driven by a direct drive (7) in the printing operation such that a damp applicator roller of the damping unit is rolled on the form cylinder to provide circumferential speed different from the circumferential speed of the form cylinder. A delta value and/or difference value between the circumferential speeds is adjusted such that the maximum allowable torque at the roller is decreased.
