The method involves calculating the number of revolutions of an engine (M) by a computation algorithm of electrical variables. The frequency spectrum of the armature current or the armature voltage of the engine is determined. The number of revolutions of the engine is derived from the fundamental frequency of the frequency spectrum. The fundamental frequency is determined by filtering the frequency spectrum with an adaptive band pass filter.
