The method involves determining a set of speed characteristics for an appropriate combustion stroke of a combustion cycle of an internal-combustion engine (102), where the speed characteristic is based on the speed of the engine in combustion stroke. Comparison characteristic is calculated based on average value of the speed characteristics. The speed characteristic is compared with the comparison characteristic. A signal indicating combustion error is output in the combustion stroke based on comparison. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product has a set of instructions for performing a method for recognizing combustion errors of an internal-combustion engine (2) a device for recognizing of combustion errors of an internal-combustion engine.
