The method involves determining two parameters that characterize the torque input of respective cylinders (101, 102) provided in respective groups of cylinders, in one mode of operation of an internal-combustion engine (100). The determined parameters are compared with each other. A fresh air error or a fuel error is recognized depending on the result of comparison. Fresh air quantities supplied to the groups of cylinders are recognized, when one of the parameters is greater than the other parameter around a preset value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for diagnosing an internal-combustion engine, comprising a determination device (2) a computer program for performing a method for diagnosing an internal-combustion engine (3) a computer program product for performing a method for diagnosing an internal-combustion engine.
