The method involves arranging a mounting mat (12) around a component (10) e.g. filter body. A plunger is compressed against an assembly group of the mounting mat and the component from outside. A parameter e.g. pressure value and force value, is measured, where the parameter specifies dimensions of the component, when a preset pressure is applied from the outside. A housing is calibrated on the basis of measured parameter. The assembly group of the mounting mat and the component is tamped into the calibrated housing.
