The engine has a crankshaft, a transmission, a starting device and a flywheel (1) that is arranged between the crankshaft and the transmission, where the flywheel is designed as a planetary gear (2). The flywheel has a rotatable internal gear (3), a sun gear (4) that is connected with the crankshaft, a rotatable planetary carrier (5) and three planetary wheels (6) that are supported at the planet carrier in a rotatable manner. The wheels are arranged between the internal gear and the sun gear. The starting device and the planet carrier are coupled in a torque-proof manner. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal-combustion engine.
