The method involves applying light emitting diodes as illuminant. Multiple light emitting diodes or multiple groups of the light emitting diodes are separately controlled. The light emitting diodes are operated in appropriate operating point in pulse-width-modulated manner. The brightness of the light source is controlled by a pulse-pause-ratio. Multiple light emitting diodes or multiple groups of the light emitting diodes are controlled by different pulse-width-modulation-signals in time-delayed manner.
