The method involves determining stationary engine torque (10) from measured fuel flow mass of an internal combustion engine. Engine parameters such as load pressure (14), exhaust counter-pressure (16), engine speed (34), average engine speed and actual injecting volume are measured to determine a dynamic correction factor (44), where the dynamic correction factor comprises a measure for charge-cycle work of the engine. A dynamic engine torque (46) is determined from the stationary engine torque and the dynamic correction factor. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining engine torque of an internal combustion engine.
