The device (1) has a camshaft comprising a cam (2), and a cam follower element (6) e.g. tappet (7) and lever, for deflecting a valve (4), where the cam follower element deflects the valve under kinematical positive control with the camshaft. The cam follower element comprises a last motion element (9) that is switched to influence the kinematical positive control to control the deflection of the valve. The cam cooperates with cam follower element in a contact zone in which the last motion element is provided. The last motion element is made of a polymer gel.
