The sensor has a protection tube module (20) fixed at a housing (11) and covering a gas-sensitive end section (141) of a sensor element (14). The module has a cap-shaped inner protection tube (21) for enclosing the end section with radial distance. A free space (29) that is wide till a cap opening (212) is provided in a flow direction of gas behind a cap brim (213) for deflection of the measuring gas flow into the inner protection pipe. A gas outlet (24) is provided in a cap base (211) of the inner protection tube.
