The method involves changing a starting phase of an internal-combustion engine (10) from one starting mode of operation to another starting mode of operation. The starting, particularly a cold starting is provided for the direct fuel injection, where the fuel is guided to a fuel collecting line (16) by a fuel high-pressure pump (20). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a controlling or regulating unit for an internal-combustion engine; and (2) an internal-combustion engine with direct fuel injection having a fuel high-pressure pump.
