The method involves detecting three-dimensional spatial regions of a spatial environment by recording units (7-10) i.e. cameras, which are arranged at the spatial environment while monitoring the spatial environment and are arranged at a movable device i.e. medical device. Three-dimensional environmental models is detected from the detected spatial region, where models is specified by a set of objects (A, D, 2-6) and device that occupies space volume in the space regions. A collision risk between the device and objects is determined at the space based on the models. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring a spatial environment of a movable device i.e. medical device, comprising a recording unit.
