The method involves three-dimensionally detecting spatial points of a spatial region (R) using detection units i.e. three-dimensional cameras (7-10), which are arranged in the spatial region. A three-dimensional environment model is developed from the three-dimensional spatial points, where the three-dimensional environment model specifies space volumes occupied by multiple objects e.g. ellipses (A, D), C-shaped arch (1), patient table (2), monitors (3), electro-encephalograph instrument (4), X-ray protective shield (5) and positioning device (6), within the spatial region. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring a spatial region of a movable medical device.
