The machine has an injection unit (SP) that is provided in a fixed manner. A closing unit (SE) is movable relative to an injection unit. A hydraulic or electromotor driven actuator i.e. linear drive (104) is provided for moving the closing unit. The actuator is provided between a machine bed (100) and carriages (103) or between the machine bed and a platen (70) that is fixed in reference to the closing unit. The injection unit has a worm gear pre-plasticized aggregate i.e. extruder (10) and a piston injection aggregate i.e. piston injection unit (50). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating the injection molding machine.
