The method involves detecting actual data traffic of a field bus (5) as a data set. The detected data set is diagnosed in an evaluation unit (8) integrated in a field bus diagnosing device (4). The diagnosing device is attached with the field bus. The data set is stored on an associated storage medium (9). The detected, diagnosed and stored data set is represented by a server (1) in a network (3). An output unit (6) is connected with the network via a client (2). The represented data set is made visible. An independent claim is also included for a device for diagnosing a network.
