The method involves scanning a large intestine with a tomography system, and reconstructing a tomographic data record (1) from the tomography system. The large intestine is segmented with the data record. Same geometric objects with maximum extension are fitted in the segmented large intestine. The extension of the geometric objects is determined by a characteristic parameter. The parameter of the object is determined by an overall length of the intestine. Folded and unfolded regions of the large intestine are differentiated, where parameter of the regions is larger than a preset limit value.
