Producing fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) from palm fatty acid distillate, comprises: fractionation of the palm fatty acid distillate in a first fraction comprising 16C-free fatty acids (16C-FFA) and a second fraction comprising 18C-free fatty acids (18C-FFA) and a residue-R1; separate esterification of the first and second fractions with methanol in the presence of an acid catalyst to 16C-FAME and/or 18C-FAME; and production of a blend from 16C-FAME and 18C-FAME.
