The clamping device (1) has a firmly positioned base plate (2), in whose longitudinal guide (3) a clamping roller carrier (4) is linearly positioned and adjusted. The end side of the clamping roller carrier is assigned with a rotatable clamping roller (5) cooperative with a traction mechanism formed as elastic belt. The longitudinal guide has a longitudinal slot (26) in the base plate into which a guide pin (6) of the clamping roller carrier is engaged in a form-fit manner. A measuring device displays a position of the clamping roller carrier against the base plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting input tension of a traction mechanism in a traction mechanism drive of an internal combustion engine.
